To see if they are enlarged or infected, have him stick his tongue out as far as he can, tilt his head back, and say “AHHHHH.” Then, using a small flashlight, look into the back of his throat at the tonsils. Enlarged tonsils will appear to be close to each other and you may be able to see white or yellowish spots on them. If your child’s tonsils look large or red call your doctor for an appointment.
